Fujairah International Monodrama Festival Unofficially Launched

Although the Higher Organizing Committee of the Fujairah International Monodrama Festival (FIMF) decided to postpone the Festival's official opening ceremony, which was scheduled to take place on Friday, January 20, 2012, yet the performances have already commenced on Saturday, January 21, 2012, with a monodrama performance entitled "The Pianist"; written by Saudi playwright Malha Abdullah and performed by Moroccan actress Latifa Ahrar. Ahrar's performance reflected the agony and suffering inflicted on women by eastern husbands.
Another monodrama performance entitled "This is the End" was also staged. The script, written by Austrian playwright Peter Turrini and performed by Ghorban Ismailov, is about a journalist who tries to commit suicide, but has flashbacks of his life and stops and starts counting to one thousand, and thus keeps trying over and over.
The opening ceremony was postponed due to the mourning of the death of Sheikh Humaid Bin Mohammed Bin Saqr Al Qasimi -May Allah have mercy on him- the brother of His Highness Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah; Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. The late Sheikh Humaid had passed away on Thursday, January19, 2012.
The opening ceremony, which will be held at front area of the Fujairah Fort, will include a performance entitled; "Fujairah: the World Passes through here"; written by playwright and poet Mohammad Saeed Al Dhanhani, the Chairman of the Festival, and directed by Eyad Al Khazouz. The performance features the Ornina Theatrical Dance Group who will dance to the music composed by Waleed Al Hashim.
The opening ceremony will be attended by a large number of official, cultural, and media personalities from the UAE, in addition to the Festival's Arab and international guests of honor who number more than 250 celebrities from 20 countries around the world. Among the guests, is Simon Brook; son of international thespian Peter Brook; winner of the first edition of the Fujairah Award for Theatre Creativity. Simon will receive the prize on behalf of his father; who could not attend due to health reasons.
