| Memorandum of Understanding between Al Owais and Yemen Center for Studies and Research |

H.E Abdul Hamid Ahmad, Secretary General of the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation, and Dr. Abdul-Aziz al-Maqaleh, Cultural Advisor to the President of the Republic of Yemen, Chairman of the Yemen Center for Studies and Research in Sanaa, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Saturday, 10 July 2010. The MoU aims to establish cooperation between both parties to serve their joint objectives, through consultation, exchange of opinion, visits, books, periodicals, scientific and cultural information, as well as linking the libraries of both institutions electronically.
The MoU stipulates that both institutions advice the other, whenever possible, of their activities, particularly awards and cultural events. It also stipulates that each institution represents the other in its country, and that they draw on each other's technical capability in terms of the Internet and other information networks.
Both parties expressed their readiness to study the possibility of implementing joint projects in line with their objectives, to discuss the agreements and protocols for each on a case by case basis, and to regularly exchange information and documents on subjects of common interest.
Abdul Hamid Ahmad, Secretary-General of Al Owais, commented that the MoU is a great step in the right direction to activate cultural cooperation between Yemen and the UAE, as both Al Owais and the Yemen Center work on disseminating and preserving Arab culture.
He went on to add that the MoU comes as a result of Al Owais Foundation's keenness to expand its activities within the Arab region, stressing the foundation's seriousness in implementing the articles of the MoU. He also praised the efforts of the great poet Yemeni, Dr. Maqaleh, in serving and enriching Arab culture.
In his turn, Dr. Abdul-Aziz al-Maqaleh, expressed his appreciation for Al Owais Cultural Foundation, as represented by its Secretary-General Abdul Hamid Ahmad, for this initiative. He went on to add that this MoU reflects Al Owais' interest in collaborating with the Yemen Center for Studies and Research, particularly as both institutions share the same key objectives of representing the Arabic language and striving to preserve this language.
Dr. al-Maqaleh also commended Al Owais Cultural Foundation on their status as a radiating cultural center and as a role model, adding that its operations and outputs benefit those involved in the various cultural fields. He pointed out that he felt confident that this MoU will be actively implemented, starting with preparations for a number of joint events, including a seminar early next year.
Al Owais Foundation previously signed an MoU with the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation of Jordan. This is a natural progression for Arab cultural civil institutions seeking to strengthen cooperation amongst each other. Al Owais Foundation was a pioneer on this path as the institution held several joint events over the past few years in various Arab capitals including Fez, Damascus and Cairo.
