Art Exhibition by Prominent Korean Ceramic Artist Sun-Shik Kim at Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation

In cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Dubai, and the Municipality of Busan City, the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation organizes the "Korean Cultural Week" in Dubai, from October 24th to October 27th, 2011. The event will include a number of musical and dance performances, film screenings, as well as various art and cultural activities.
The activities of the Korean Cultural Week include a lecture entitled "Historical Relationships and a Bright Future", which will be given by the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Cairo, Mr. Jaeyang Park; who will talk about the relationship between Korea and the Arab World from a cultural perspective. The event will also include screenings of Korean feature films and a performance by the Busan Metropolitan Dance Company.
Moreover the Korean Cultural Week will also include a Plastic Art Exhibition by the Arisu Artist's Association and a Ceramic Art Exhibition by Prominent Korean Artist Sun Shik Kim, who belongs to the 8th generation of a family of skilled ceramic artisans. Kim Sun-Shik was born in Mun-Kyung, Kwan-Eum; he is the youngest son of Mr. Kim Bok-Man. In 1991 he became a ceramic arts student.
In 1998, Kim Sun Shik won awards at the Traditional Ceramic Arts Festival and the Dong-A Applied Fine Arts Festival (Traditional Ceramic Arts Section). In 1999 his works were exhibited at the Yeong-Nam Ceramic 100 Men Arts Exhibition. Sun Shik's works have been permanently exhibited at Sang-Kuk-Sa Da-Wan in Kyoto, Japan, and at the National Folk Museum, Jung-Ho Da-Wan since the year 2000.
Korean artist Kim Sun Shik has participated in many local and international exhibitions such as:  the Mun-Kyung Ceramic 9 Men Arts Exhibition in Osaka, Japan (2001), the Korean-American Cultural Foundation U.S Tour Exhibition (2001), the Korean Pottery Special Exhibition (2001), the Yeong-Nam Art Exhibition-Ceramic Art Section (2002), the Daedeok Cultural Center exhibition in Daejeon (2003), the Geum-Ho Art Center Exhibition in Seoul (2004), the Sooncheon Cultural Art Center Exhibition in Jeolla-nam-Do (2004), and the exhibition sponsored by the Consulate General of the Republic of South Korea in Qingdao City in China (2004), among many others.
In 2005, he was appointed as a Special Advisor in the Korean Ministry of Culture. Artist Kim Sun Shik has received several awards such as the second prize at the Yeong-Nam Art Exhibition- Ceramic Art Section (2003) and a special prize at the Contemporary Art Competition (2010). Artist Kim Sun Shik currently works as a full-time Lecturer at the Mun-kyung Ceramic Arts Centre. He founded the Jung-Mun Literature Award. He is a member of the Regional Renovation and Development Committee, and the Korean Molding Arts Association.
