| Lebanese poet Shawqi Baze wins Souq Okaz award |

The award founder, The Emir of Mecca "Khaled Al-Faisal", announced in a press conference that was especially held in Jeddah for this purpose that the Lebanese poet "Shawqi Baze" won the major Souq Okaz award for Arabic poetry. He added that this was the decision of the committees of poetry, calligraphy, painting and photography that were formed particularly to determine the winner.
Al-Faisal read the statement in the conference which was attended by the press and several ministers and writers. According to poetry committee, the award aims at "heeding classical Arabic poetry and giving appropriate recognition to distinguished poets by granting them the Medal of honor that they deserve through "The Poet of Okaz" Title. The award winner gets 300,000 Saudi Riyals in addition to the shield and cloak of The Okaz Poet.
More than 750 Arab poets were nominated for the Award. Each poet presented one poem that he considered the dome of his poetic experience. The creative value of the poet's other poems is also taken into consideration. The winner, "Baze", participated with his very well known poem "Lament of The Dust" which he had written in the 1990's and which presented the most prominent turn in his following poetic experience, according to critics. "Baze" will read his winner poem in the Okaz poetic ceremony which will be held in the Saudi "Al-Taif" city on September 28th. "Baze" will receive the Award, the medal, the shield and the cloak on the occasion.
