| Abdul Hameed Shoman Award begins receiving applications |


The Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Children’s Literature announced on Thursday that it has started receiving applications. The deadline to apply for the annual award, held this year under the theme “literary criticism of children’s literature”, will be at the end of January 2011. Applicants should be Arab nationals and their work should be submitted in Arabic, according to award rules. The top prize includes $10,000, a certificate and a medal.
The Award is granted annually, to honor individuals for their contributions that exhibit originality and excellence, in the field of Children's Literature in each of the following literary arts: Story, Poetry, Fiction, Theater Text for Children andLiterary Criticism in the Field of Children's Literature
The candidate should be of Arab nationality or origin, and the candidate’s work should be directed towards the Arab children below sixteen years of age. The work submitted should be written in standard Arabic according to the proper size and form provided that it was published not more than three years ago, and has not won a similar award.
The book should contain a number of poems no less than ten poems. Nominations for the award will be accepted provided that they are submitted by the authors themselves or through academic, educational, scientific, and cultural institutions.
