- Born in Amman, 1933, to a Saudi father and Jordanian mother.
- Studied Law at Baghdad University in 1952, but was expelled following Baghdad Alliance; he resumed his studies at Cairo University and graduated in 1957.
- Attained his PhD in Economics in 1961.
- Worked at the Syrian Ministry of Oil.
- Lived in Amman, Damascus, Baghdad and Paris between 1973 and 1986 before settling in Damascus.
Decision of the General Secretariat
Abdul Rahman Muneef deserved the award for his creativity in novels. The Award highlighted the importance of this creativity, which he presented over three decades. His creativity bypasses novels to enter the sphere of cultural achievement. He draws from history, sociology, philosophy, economy, and culture, written or oral. He experiments and his work is tinged with artistic sensitivity. His prose reflects life and freedom.
Mouneef has achieved a lot in the development of structure and technique of Arabic prose, keeping in mind Arabic identity, as well as the human side.
