The magazine Al Arabi became the first institution to win the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Award. Al Arabi was announced winner of the 7^th Scientific & Cultural Achievement Award 2000-2001 in 2.1.2002.

The first NGO to award a government-owned cultural institution, the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation considered the Award a recognition of the important role played by the culture journalism in general, not only Al Arabi.  

The Foundation's General Secretariat said the Award was recognition of the distinguished service to the Arab culture by the magazine over almost half a century. Throughout the years, Al Arabi has been a beacon of enlightenment in the Arab World and a forum for serious and scientific approach in Arabic culture.

Al Arabi is one of the most important Arabic magazines. Since its inception, the magazine has managed to sustain a distinguished combination of high standards of journalism and distinguished popularity among Arabic readers.
